It's Harry Potter Week!

In honor of the new movie coming out this week, I'm doing an entire week of Harry Potter-related posts!

(Hold on. I have to take a second... Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part One is coming out THIS WEEK! Squee!)

But I'm not doing it alone. There are four other amazing bloggers/super fans who will posting on our favorite boy wizard all week. Stop by and check out their posts, too:

Speaking of super fans, I thought I would do today's post on Harry Potter fandom. If you've read this blog before, you know that it's kind of an understatement to say that I'm a pretty big Potter fan.

I first came across the books in 2001 when my best friend pressed a copy of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone into my hands and said, "You have to read this."

"But aren't these children's book?" I asked with an air of superiority. I was a serious college student. I didn't read "kid's" books.

"Yeah," she informed me, "but they're awesome and you're gonna love them."

She was right (as usual). I tore through the first four books, which were the only ones out at that point, and then waited with baited breath for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix to be released in 2003. The book came out the weekend before I was getting married and, frantic last minute wedding planning aside, I was determined to be there, in line, at midnight, to get a copy of that book in my hot little hands the second it came out. I finished it within a day or two, in part, because it rocked and, in part, because my biggest fear was that I would be standing at the altar wondering what was going to happen to the gang in the Department of Mysteries.

I was there at midnight, in costume, when Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows were released. I've been to a midnight showing of every single movie.

One of the best days of my life was the day I met J.K. Rowling.

So, yeah, I'm a pretty big fan. I'm definitely a bigger fan than anyone I know. Anyone I know in real life that is.

My friends and family think I'm a little kooky for being so into a book. When I said I had registered for the fan conference, most of my real-life friends rolled their eyes, but my online friends were totally excited for me. Since I started blogging, I've found a lot more support for my extreme love for The Boy Who Lived. And the fact that I'm going to be writing about all manner of HP-related goodness this week with these four other awesome ladies just makes my heart do a little happy dance.

Thanks to all the super fans out there who make obsessing over fictional characters so much fun!
