I Saw the Movie!

I saw the movie! I saw the movie! Yay! And you know what, some of these cool bloggers did to. Stop by and see them:

Okay, so, when I found out yesterday afternoon that the theater had CANCELLED THE COSTUME CONTEST I was all upset. I had planned to wear our awesome Ginny and Harry wedding day costumes, but it just seemed silly to get that dressed up for no reason. So, I modified our costumes a little. We're still Harry and Ginny, but just a regular students (I don't know what it says about me that I just happened to have enough Harry Potter costume stuff on hand to pull this off).

Aren't we adorable? Unfortunately, this is the only photo I got because when we arrived they were already seating people, so we were just hanging around a dark theater most of the time. When we got there, I realized I had totally made the right decision. NO ONE was dressed up. Or at least there were only a few scattered people dressed up as Hogwarts students, so yeah, we would have looked super ridiculous. Not to mention no one would have been able to see our outfits, since, like I said, everyone was already sitting down.

I still have to make the husband dress up in our official costumes and take some pictures. I've decided to save them for LeakyCon where there will be more adults in costumes wandering around and I won't feel as self-conscious.

Okay, onto the movie. I'm not going to spoil it if you haven't seen it (and seriously, you haven't seen it yet?), but it was really excellent. I think the movie perfectly captured the tone of the book. It also follows the book really closely. I've read Deathly Hallows probably about four times (most recently this summer), so I was pretty familiar with what happened and there were very few times when the plot deviated from the book. And I wouldn't call any of the changes they made major. Lots of little things. They also left out a lot of points that would have been hard to convey on film (Harry reading the newspaper article about Dumbledore's background, for example).

The actors have also really grown and gotten pretty good. When you consider that most of the movie is just the three of them wandering around having misadventures, then you have to hand it to them for stepping up their game and making each scene meaningful and poignant. I really loved the interactions between Ron and Hermione which show their budding feelings for each other.

Without giving away the end point of the movie, I'll just say that I was surprised that they went as far as they did into the book (though now that I'm looking at the page count, it appears that where they stopped is a little more than halfway through). I'm really, really glad they decided to break the movie into two. I don't think I could have handled a rushed version of this movie. There's just too much to get in, and besides, the books deserve the extended treatment.

So, if you saw the movie last night, what did you think?
