Halloween Costumes

Every year, I manage to convince my poor husband and child to dress up in a group Halloween costume. This year, in honor of my daughter's favorite movie, we're going as characters from The Wizard of Oz.

My two-and-a-half-year-old is going to be Dorothy...

I bought her this uber-cute costume on Amazon and she already loves it and demands to wear her "Dorothy dress," so that's good...

I kind of want to get her a wig to go with it since she's a little blondie and will probably look kind of funny without the brown pigtails, but I know she'd never go for a wig, so blonde Dorothy it is. Next step is to find a little stuffed Toto and a basket she can carry. Oh, and of course, her ruby slippers...

My husband agreed to be the Wizard of Oz. But I thought it would be kind of boring for him to just dress as an old man...

So I'm kind of gonna go funky with it. I'm going to try to find a crazy green suit and green glasses and I'll probably get him to spray his hair with some of that green hairspray stuff they have in all the Halloween stores. Maybe try for this look (though I wouldn't want his face all green)...

Yeah, see, this is too boring. Crazy wizard will rock (hopefully everyone will know who he is though)...

And I, of course, will be the Wicked Witch of the West. Yes, it's true, I hardly even need a costume (or at least that's what my mom said... thanks, Mom)...

So far I only have the hat, but I'm cruising the thrift stores for a dress tomorrow. I'm going to paint my face green, but I need to come up with something for my hands. Green gloves? I love the way the witch's fingers look in the first picture. Maybe I'll just do green press-ons?

These little figurines have some great details on them....

I could also go all Wicked and embroider all kinds of gorgeousness onto my dress...

Oh, I forgot, I have a job. And a family. And a book to rewrite. Also, I can't sew to save my life.

Any suggestions or ideas? I'd appreciate any costuming tips from my writer and reader friends since I know you're all a super-creative bunch!
