My Goals for 2011

(Yeah, I know this is two weeks late, but, luckily, being on time for things is not one of my goals...)

I've never really made New Year's Resolutions. I'd probably just resolve to do something stupid and then end up forgetting about it a week later. So these aren't resolutions. They're goals. Did you know that when you write down a goal, you have a better chance of achieving it? So, here are my goals for the new year, all written down to inspire me to actually do them or some jazz like that. Maybe at the end of the year I'll go back over them and actually hold myself accountable (eh, doubtful...).

Anyway, here it goes...

1) Get an agent.

Poof! I shall wave my magic literary wand and she will appear! No, seriously, my biggest priority is getting my current WIP agent ready (it's being made more awesome by C.A. Marshall as we speak type) and starting the querying process again. Fingers crossed...

2) Become a mom again.

May 2011 be filled with lots of poopy diapers and spit-up. The husband and I are currently in the process of adopting, so it's just a matter of waiting right now. Universe, if you're listening...

3) Learn to play the ukulele or guitar.

I already play the flute and (very, very little) piano, so I'm hoping to expand my musical horizons. It's weird because I have an awful singing voice, so it doesn't make much sense to take up an instrument that will require me to inflict my tone-deafness on the world, but the heart wants what the heart wants.

4) Greatly limit my use of LOL and the smiley face emoticon :) in my online communications.

Okay, this one's dumb. But, I have noticed that I constantly write "LOL" or use the smiley face when I'm emailing, on social media, or commenting on blogs. I'm sure many of you have seen me abuse these adorable shorthands. While there is nothing wrong with either of these in of of themselves (no judgement!), I just use them far too often. I feel like I have to stretch myself to be a better commentor/emailer/writer instead of just falling back on these old stand-bys. So, yeah, it's really about the writing.

5) Read 60 books.

Last year, I read 48 books (which I thought was pretty okay), so this year I'm hoping to up the number. I've got no shortage of books in my To Be Read pile at least.

How about you? What are your goals for 2011? Are you doing any of them already?
