December Contest - Win Dirty Little Secrets

In October and November, I participated in a YA mentorship program through Sacha Whalen's blog. She gathered a group of published YA authors who wanted to mentor unagented/unpublished writers, and I was lucky enough to be chosen.

My mentor was the fabulous
C.J. Omololu. She is the author of Dirty Little Secrets and an upcoming YA fantasy series. I can't even begin to thank her enough for all the help she gave me over these last two months. Not only was she working hard on her own writing/rewrites, she also took the time to read through big sections of my manuscript, answer my questions, suggest changes, and look over my revisions.

She actually helped me to find a better starting place for my book and now I think the opening chapter is much more interesting and focused than it was before.

When I found out C.J. was going to be my mentor, I rushed out and ordered her book, Dirty Little Secrets. Here's a synopsis:

Everyone has a secret. But Lucy’s is bigger and dirtier than most. It’s one she’s been hiding for years — that her mom’s out-of-control hoarding has turned their lives into a world of garbage and shame. She’s managed to keep her home life hidden from her best friend and her crush, knowing they’d be disgusted by the truth. So, when her mom dies suddenly in their home, Lucy hesitates to call 911 because revealing their way of life would make her future unbearable — and she begins her two-day plan to set her life right.

I just finished the book last week and it was incredible. I absolutely loved Lucy's voice. Everything about her character was picture perfect. The details of her life in a hoarding household were so real and well done. The subject matter is kind of dark, but the book will stay with you long after you put it down.

But don't just take my word for it. I'm giving away my copy to one lucky follower!
