MTV PRODUCERS ARE FAGS!!
On the flip side
If the team with the less team members have to do an event where having LESS team members can work in their favor, well yeah...sure...that's a great thing. Those challenges are very rare and the Rookies keep getting creamed because they have less team members!!
Yes readers, reality TV is not all fluff, it really involves you and makes you think. ;-)
Oh and don't give me any flack about using the word fag...I am soooo NOT PC and your words will just be wasted on me.
Oooh, Rob and Big is on!
;-) peace

Star Trek the Tour

Zaytinya
No matter what you get, it's likely to be good. For dinner, I loved the arayes (pita filled with lamb), kibbeh (crisp and golden-brown bulb-shaped fritters filled with meat and spices), the falafel (old favorite, but seriously, it's a must) and the grape leaves. I would eat everything that I had again, but it's necessary to mix it up so eventually you hit everything on the menu. I already forgot how good the spanikopita (feta and spinach in phyllo dough) was--it comes out last and it is worth the wait.
The creamy hint-of-a-tangy-note labneh transported me back to the breakfast table in Israel, a place where the produce has a sharper, brighter taste and the cheeses cause the word "portion" to disappear from my vocabulary. The staff thankfully keeps refilling the basket of their pita, a 3-D diamond-shaped pocket-like bread, which entertains me on the table as the steam pours out of a small hole at the top. Dip it in every sauce, cheese, and yogurt. You know, just to make sure it's still good.
A note about the wine: Though $9 for the cheapest glass made me do a double-take, this "glass" was more like 1.5--the large pour was pleasing.
Brunch is equally delightful at Zaytinya. The patata harra, a stated favorite of our server, was a tasty treat--a fried egg placed prettily on top of a hashy potato mixture. The omelet with vegetables was very vegetable-y tasting--not my favorite, but still good. My FAVORITE were the poached eggs (cilbir) with Greek yogurt, paprika butter, and sumac. After the initial puncture, the running egg yolks and deliciously creamy sauce were subjected to my incessant dipping with my pita. I also think this dish offers the most bang for your buck, because it's a lot of food (especially with the abundant opportunity to dip) for $6.95. The traditional Lebanese French toast (with honey-marinated bananas) was so moist that my father refused to believe it was actually made of bread--he likened it to flan, the Spanish custard dessert. It tasted like a grand finale for me, too!
Servers recommend 2-3 dishes per person, and for brunch we ordered 2 per person plus 3 more for the table of 6 total guests. We had plenty and all left full.
Service is friendly--our hummus was forgotten but we received two orders of fried eggplant, which we promptly ate. We were only charged for what we ate.
I'm totally obsessed...I think Zaytinya is my new favorite restaurant in DC.
1. Not super-expensive
2. Ridiculously delicious
3. Many options
4. Lots of sharing
5. Lots of cheese
Updated note: Forgot to tell ya'll how it's superdeeduper loud at dinnertime because da bar iz hoppin. If you are bringing old folks, try brunch! It's quiet and reservations don't need to be made 3 weeks in advance, harumph.

"Red Stiletto on Yellow"

Today's photo of the day, like yesterday's, is a new smaller work more modestly priced that's not yet on Jay Rolfe's website. It's a 2 feet square fine art reproduction on stretched canvas enhanced with an original signature by the artist. This red stiletto is set off with a stunning yellow background. It is available framed or unframed. Artist Jay Rolfe likes the black float frame which further sets it off. Here are both framed and unframed photos, so you be the judge of which you like best.

SC Book Festival
Columbia, SC is a cool little town. I was there this past weekend for the SC Book Festival. I stayed in the historical area where some nifty shops and restaurants were. Ooh, and a super neat park, too.
I hung out at the Echelon Press booth and signed both my romantic suspense and young adult titles. As always at these events, I met tons of great people. Here's a pic of me cheezing it with one of many that attended the event.

Dogs in Miniature - the Perfect Pets

Who can resist a dog that doesn't shed, doesn't need to be walked, and is as cute as a button?
There are quite a few people who create dogs in miniature, including Dutch artist Dolores van den Akker. See some of her amazing miniature dogs at my blog, Candid Canine.
I love dogs in real life, but there's something about a no-maintenance dog that can be pretty appealing - especially with the spring shed and mud season right around the corner.
"Wine = Tax Deduction"
Last night was OTBN (Open That Bottle Night). It provided an opportunity to display Jay Rolfe's mixed media painting "Wine = Tax Deduction." Today's photo of the day is "Wine = Tax Deduction."

Jasper Johns "Gray"

Artist Jay Rolfe is looking forward to seeing this exhibit at the Met since reading Jerry Saltz' review in the current issue of New York Magazine. It's a great review, and I've read several others, both in popular and art publications. Before reading Saltz' review, I was apprehensive about the exhibit. The reason? As you've probably noticed, I like bright colors. Jasper Johns painted many paintings in bright colors and then again virtually the same painting in shades of gray. I have always liked the bright ones better. For example, in last year's exhibit at the National Gallery in Washington DC, both colorful and gray paintings were shown, although colorful ones predominated. I enjoyed that show and bought the catalog. Now I'm ready to see this exhibit. Thanks Jerry Saltz!
The 2 photos of the day are what is apparently the one colorful painting in the show "False Start" and its gray analogue "Jubilee" both painted in 1959.

Jumper
It was good, could have had a bit more story substance but it was so distracting...why? Because I forgot how beautiful Hayden Christensen is! Got damn, he is fine! Those eyes, that voice those lips...*sigh* I may have to go watch again.

Daisy goes to the Dentist

Of course we get in the car and she is super excited, she loves car rides. Soon as we get to the Vet she realized something was up and started to wine. We go inside nad he is in total panic mood. We tell the Vet tech that she is nervous and can bite so they allowed us to take her back to the shelter. As we put her in she had no idea what was going on and I felt so guilty leaving her. She gave us that look of "you don't love me anymore" and my heart broke.
As many of you know we got her from the shelter two years ago and I'm sure being put into another shelter cage was very tramtic for her.
Well we left and I went to work waiting for the call to let me know that they were done and we could pick her up. I got a call around 11:30 let me know that everything went great and we could pick her up in two hours. Well Harry and I counted down the time and as soon as two hours hit we quickly went over to the Vet and picked her up. They said she was perfect.. which I find hard to believe, but there she was all happy and excited to see us pulling this poor petite vet tech down the hall.
She's been out of it all day long but she has pretty teeth now

Bread and Puppet Theater

Bread and Puppet Theater keeps popping in front of artist Jay Rolfe, so today's post will be about it. About 2 weeks ago when viewing the DVD "Across the Universe" there were several scenes with puppets that looked like Bread and Puppet creations, including one scene that seemed like the Bread and Puppet Circus field in Vermont. Artist Jay Rolfe and his wife Randy Rolfe have been to the Bread and Puppet Circus and to the Museum in Glover VT and seen the many amazing larger than life puppets used over the past decades, as well as seeing preparations for current shows. Seeing "Across the Universe" again this past weekend we noticed a special thanks in the end crerdits to Bread and Puppet Theater, so that confirmed it was B&P not just a copy.
Also, when artist Jay Rolfe visited the "Puppet Show" at the Institute for Contemporary Arts at the University of Pennsylvania 2 weeks ago, part of the exhibit (right next to the Kiki Smith photos) was literature about Bread and Puppet from the Bread and Puppet Press. The catalog notes said: "Bread and Puppet Theater, directed by Peter Schumann, has been the single most influential live puppet theater twoupe in the United States since the 1960s. Schumann's creation of an avant-garde political puppet theater has depended in part on his inimitable graphic designs, here represented by various publications created by the Bread and Puppet Press." I'm sure Peter would love it. And if the organizers had asked Peter for a puppet instead of settling for literature collected by someone, I'm sure he would have been happy to lend one or more.
